Monastery of St. Gertrude

Monastery of St. Gertrude

465 Keuterville Rd, Cottonwood, ID

The 14,000 sq. ft. project renovation goals were to increase energy efficiency, accessibility and convert dorm living space to business space. Energy efficiency included replacement of over 270 custom-sized windows. The windows were replaced wood metal clad windows with attention to the historical lines and detail. Accessibility was another challenge with the project. The original monastery elevator was installed in the 20s and had a small car with limited capacity. When the monastery annex was constructed in 1952 the design was for shorter ceilings so some of the floors do not align with the original building thus they were not accessible by elevator. We added a second elevator to access all floors including the 3rd and 4th floors of the Annex to accommodate wheel chairs and gurneys. The large dormitory living spaces were renovated to better serve the many missions the monastery sponsors.
